Joining the choir

We rehearse on Sundays between 5.30 and 7.00 pm at St John of Jerusalem Church, Lauriston Road, London E9 7DL.

The choir normally gives two concerts a year. As well as preparing for performances, the rehearsals provide an opportunity to improve singing technique and general musical knowledge and are stimulating and enjoyable. We also run a programme of social events throughout the year as well as fundraising events such as quiz nights and barn dances.

The choir is open to all regardless of age, ethnic background or religion and no-one is excluded from membership on financial grounds. There are no auditions and the choir includes people with a variety of musical experience.

We welcome new members and are interested in hearing from any keen singers who would like to join us. However, as the choir is currently around optimum size (not too big!) and has a good balance of voices, you may at the moment be asked to join a waiting list.

Choir subscriptions

We rely on support from the local community and from choir subscriptions to finance our rehearsals and concerts.   We are committed to keeping entry to our concerts free which we believe is crucial in making them accessible to a wide audience.  Our subscriptions are set at a level which helps to make this posssible.

Fees for the year 2011-2012 are:

If you are interested in joining or just finding out more about the choir please contact the secretary, .

Support the choir

If you are unable to sing with the choir but would like to support its work, we would like to hear from you. We put on at least two public performances a year, with professional musicians. This involves a considerable amount of work – and of course money.

We have been lucky in having the support of many local people with tasks such as publicising our concerts, helping with front-of-house and taking part in fundraising events. We would welcome others who would like to help in these activities. Please contact the secretary, .

Entrance to our concerts is free and we depend on the financial contribution of choir members as well as on the generosity of our audiences and supporters. You can contribute to the costs of putting on a performance in a number of ways:

  • Become a 'Friend' of the Festival Chorus by donating at least £25 per year. Friends will be acknowledged in the programme (unless you prefer not) and you will be informed of all choir events and given free tickets to fundraising events. Please contact the secretary, .
  • If you have a local business, advertise in our concert programme or donate a prize for one of our fundraising events. Please contact the treasurer, .
